Khap Panchayat has been dominant in North India with the Face of Male.
Foundation of Lado Panchayat: In 2012, Sunil Jaglan Founder Selfie With daughter, organized a women oriented Khap Panchayat in village Bibipur, district Jind, Haryana where for the first time women in large number participated in the Khap Panchayat raising their voice against Female Feticide. This brought a little change in society where women started participating in Khap Panchayat. The change wasn’t enough to being a social change and women empowerment. Good principles were adopted from the society values and Khap panchayats to begin a new concept of Lado Panchayat.
Focus of Lado Panchayat: Now Lado Panchayats are being conducted by girls and young women and also supported by elder women to focus on various subjects relating to girl and women empowerment; like raising legal girl marriage age to 21 years, girl education, women health, women property rights and women financial independence.
Functioning of Lado Panchayat: Problem areas are identified through consultation with local girls and women and the broad areas are defined. WhatsApp group of girls is formed with girls from the community, educational institutions from neighbouring areas, self-help groups of women and members from local functionaries. Digital Chitthi (invitation) are sent to girls and women to invite them for Lado Panchayat. At the beginning of the Panchayat the process is explained for the selection of a Pradhan (head of lado Panchayat) among girls through a random picking up of a slip for interested girls. Pagri is placed on the head of Pradhan, a symbol of authority. Also, the conduct of Panchayat is briefed to the selected Pradhan who conducts the proceedings. Some active and well informed girls are encouraged to share their experiences and suggestions with others. At the end of Panchayat proceedings a committee is formed with the leadership of Pradhan who prepares a resolution with a Charter of Demands. These demands are then submitted to the concerned local, district and State Authorities.
